(Tiny Tips) 3 Skills to Help You Cope better with Anger

TINY TIPS FOR TIMES OF CHANGE
🎷 For any person dealing with anger daily, it is important to learn more effective coping skills. Anger, as all emotions, is a very powerful force. 

Anger can help you get out of depression if channeled properly. But anger, when used as lashing out at others, can be highly destructive. 

🎨 Here are 3 suggestions that may help in this case. Not all strategies work for all people, so it is necessary to experiment things until you find one that works for you.

Theories don’t always match up with what is possible! Think big, feel it real and take steps that move you towards your dream!

TIP 1: Practice Self Acupressure. (Not acupuncture with needles). This is about putting “pressure” on your body by touching yourself. You can tap on or rub the body. The goal is to re-stabilise harmony in the physical body so it relaxes. 

🤹 Try this out: Briskly massage your body when you feel tense and upset. Just like you would rub your hands together fast if they were cold. Best is to “cross over” so your left arm rubs your upper right arm and then your right hand rubs your upper left arm.

Doing this on your upper arms or torso increased energy moving around your body. Plus you breathe deeper too. With more energy, blood and oxygen circulating, you begin to relax. So it is very difficult to stay angry when your body is calmer. 

TIP 2: Keep a journal. When you write about the situation that upsets you, it helps to get the negative thoughts and emotions out of your head. By journaling about feelings and emotions, you are able to rid your mind of unhealthy thinking. Putting them on paper, transferring the energy out of you on to paper, releases the internal tension. Now the “stuff” is out.

🎭 You might even want to keep track of what caused the anger, how your body reacted and what you did. You might further uncover alternative ways you could have better dealt with the situation. Next time try using the alternative method. It is not about overthinking, but about mastering the emotional energy, using it for something more beneficial for everyone.

TIP 3: Remove yourself from the situation, both physically, mentally and emotionally. If you realize you have difficulties controlling your temper, you might consider avoiding topics that may cause heated arguments. 

🥁 As with everyone, there are some situations and people that just tend to get you going. If you have a regular pattern of lashing out during specific situations, avoiding the situation altogether for a period of time is key… but not the objective. Find your balance, gain perspective and learn to calm yourself, not take things personally or too seriously. 

🎻 There are so many methods available for learning to manage excessive anger. A person who recognizes they have this issue, can find at least one method that fits their personality. In the long run, taking this time, making this effort, will result in a much happier life for everyone involved. Hope this helped!
